Three times a week I am welcomed at my aunt’s house with a spread like this. Breakfast with my aunt and cousins have helped me get through a week of hectic deadlines at work, the stress of bumper to bumper Los Angeles traffic and yes, I am going to go ahead and say it….pesky phone calls I just don’t want to deal with. I am truly grateful for the time I spend with my aunt and cousins and I look forward to sitting at the table with them and conversing every week.
Melissa’s Produce was kind enough to provide me with a batch of Hatch Chiles to cook with and share with my family. I’ve prepared two recipes already (here and here) and I asked my aunt to prepare her delicious chile strip salsa with the remaining hatch.
This chile strip salsa bowl is like a bowl of love. It’s a staple in any Mexican household just like rice and beans. This salsa can enhance anything you want. Add it to your breakfast, simmer a chicken with it or just eat it with tostadas (tortilla chips) like we did that day. I recommend you make tons and tons of it because it will go fast. If you have any left, you can always freeze it and save it for later.
Hatch Chile Strips in Red Salsa
Ingredients
1 lb. Hatch Chiles, roasted, deveined, seeded and cut into strips
5 tomatoes
1 large onion, sliced in rounds
1 garlic clove, minced.
2 tbsp Olive Oil
Tostadas to snack with
On a comal or skillet, place washed tomatoes and roast over medium to high heat until soft, turning over once. Remove and let cool. Place roasted tomatoes, garlic and salt in blender and blend until smooth.
On a large skillet, over medium flame, heat oil. Add onion and sautee until tender. Add tomato mixture and roasted chiles. Reduce heat. Cover and let simmer for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy with tostadas.

Melissas Produce tuvo la amabilidad de obsequiarme Chiles Hatch para cocinar y compartir con mi familia. He preparado dos recetas ya (aquí y aquí) y le pregunté a mi tía que por favor preparara su deliciosa salsa de rajas.
Este plato de salsa de Chile Hatch es como si fuera un plato de amor. Es un elemento básico en cualquier hogar mexicano al igual que el arroz y los frijoles. Con esta salsa puedes mejorar cualquier platillo. Agregaselo a tu desayuno, cocina un pollo con él o simplemente comelo con tostadas como lo hicimos ese día. Te recomiendo hacer toneladas y toneladas, ya que se acaba rápido. Si te sobra un poco lo puedes congelar y guardar para otro día.
Rajas de Chile Hatch en Salsa
Receta de Alma Mercado
Ingredientes
1 lb Chiles Hatch, asados, desvenados, sin semillas y cortado en tiras
5 tomates
1 cebolla grande en rodajas
1 diente de ajo picado.
2 cucharadas de Aceite de oliva
Tostadas
En un comal o sartén, coloque los tomates a fuego medio alto hasta que estén blandos, volteandolos una vez. Retire y dejelos enfriar. Coloque los tomates asados, ajo y sal en la licuadora y licue hasta que la mezcla quede suave.
En una sartén grande a fuego medio, caliente el aceite. Agregue la cebolla y cocine hasta que esté tierna. Agregue la mezcla de tomate y rajas de chile. Reduzca el fuego. Cubra y deje hervir a fuego lento durante 10-12 minutos. Disfrute con tostadas.
