Every year, we take a short 2-hour road trip to Palm Springs, California. Palms Springs is known for their serene desert, 100 degree+ oasis, endless spas, sparkling blue hotel pools, beautiful mid-century modern architecture and date shakes. Every time we visit, we make our way through their excellent art galleries. But one stop we never miss is a visit to one of their famous date shake shops.
Every Palms Springs’ sweet shop or coffee shop that serves date shakes claims theirs is the best. Many blend the dates of local orchards with vanilla ice cream or whole milk. They add their own flavor combination of cinnamon, nutmeg and banana. Some even add chocolate or espresso. All are delicious and decadent.
Because we don’t have a trip to Palm Springs planned anytime soon, I decided to create my very own plant-based, dairy-free and no sugar added date shake.

My version of this date shake is just as creamy and delicious as the Palm Springs’ version. The sweetness comes from a ripe banana and soaked dates. No granulated sugar, honey or syrups are needed. Thanks to Silk, I was able to fulfill my creamy date shake craving without the added sugar.

PrintSilk® Vegan Date Shake
- Yield: Makes 2
Ingredients
6 dates, pitted, soaked in water for 15 minutes and drained
1 ripe banana
2 cups ice
1 1/2 cups Silk® Cashew Milk Unsweetened or Silk® Almondmilk Unsweetened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon plus more for garnish
pinch sea salt (about 1/8 teaspoon)
sliced raw almonds for garnish
chopped pecans for garnish
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a blender container. Blend on high speed until smooth and creamy. Serve. Garnish with almonds, pecans and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.

This looks delicious! I too, loooove the date shakes in the desert so I’m gonna have to try this. I have a suggestion to make it even creamier… Instead of using regular ice, freeze an ice cube tray with almond / cashew milk.
