Traveling with young kids takes a good deal of planning. Whether it’s one child, or ten, long trips can be daunting for both the child and the adults.
Recently, my family and I took a trip to Hawaii. Since my son was born, our trips have been under three hours. Short and quick.
This longer-than-usual-adventure was completely new to us and we had to find creative ways to make this trip go as smooth and easy as possible with a five-year-old in tow.
In order to overcome the challenges, I followed these simple travel tips that made our journey simple and enjoyable.
1. Pack wholesome snacks for your child and for yourself. In-flight meals and snacks are not always the best tasting. I like to pack Quaker® Oats Real Medleys Bars for myself because they are made with some of my favorite nuts and fruits. I had the wonderful opportunity to try this new product because I was provided with a free box of Quaker Real Medleys Bars so that I could provide my honest opinion about these new bars. They are easy to transport and are satisfying to hold you over until the plane lands. I always have one or two in my purse or in my car for snack emergencies after long workdays or for pre-workout snacks.
2. Let your child bring a carry-on. Pack it with a few of her favorite toys and a few new toys. Puzzles, coloring books, playing cards and favorite pillows or blankies always do the trick. My son was excited to pull his own bag around the airport and kept himself entertained during the hour our flight was delayed.
3. Have cleaning wipes handy. Pack a small amount in a sealable sandwich bag or purchase individual packages. Have them ready for spills, messes or trips to the cabin restroom. A travel-size antibacterial cleanser can become your best friend in unexpected travel situations with a child.
4. Load your devices with educational and entertaining apps for kids. Limit their time on tablets and cell phones and take advantage of some quiet travel time.
