One of my favorite things to do in the summer is make s’mores. Now that my son is a bit older, my plan was to teach him how to create these fun summertime treats over our July 4th holiday.
S’mores and childhood memories go hand in hand, that’s why, I decided to make Independence Day extra special by surprising my son and nieces with a picnic basket full of s’more making supplies.
A pool party with his cousins was the perfect setting and the perfect dessert after a delicious carne asada. A great way to pass the time before the neighborhood’s fireworks spectacular, we anxiously waited for, lit up the skies.
As we know, a s’more consists of three ingredients: Fresh and crispy graham crackers, a perfectly roasted marshmallow and soft and delicious milk chocolate. It takes time and practice to achieve the perfect s’more, but you’ll have fun in the process.
The trick to getting a perfectly soft piece of Hershey’s Chocolate on your s’more is by setting the chocolate as close to the heat as possible without melting, before assembling the s’more.
If you are roasting your marshmallow in a campfire or a grill, set a roasting wooding block near the fire. All you need is a small cutting board or piece of wood to set up up your graham cracker and chocolate on prior to adding the hot marshmallow. The wood absorbs the heat and keeps the chocolate perfectly warm and soft, ready to be crowned with a gooey roasted marshmallow and do the honors of finishing the melt of the chocolate. Can you tell I’ve put a lot of thought into this?
I personally love my marshmallow to be a bit on the charred side. I love the smell of burnt marshmallow and the taste when paired with milk chocolate. Heaven.
The day not only ended with happy s’more eating kiddos but adults too. I must admit that my s’more lesson received more oohhs and ahhhs than the fireworks show at the end of the night. Good luck!
