Every time I read “The waves of the moon” to my son, I remember when I was a little girl. My favorite time of day was bedtime and I used to love my one-on-one time with my mother. She would give me a bath and would tell me stories about how the moon was made of cheese and the stars were sugar sprinkles in the sky.
When she finished her story she would kiss me good night and I would say, “But mommy you forgot my milk.” She would smile and head to the kitchen to bring me my warm glass of milk. On some days she would add a drop of vanilla and a pinch of cinnamon and sugar. Those were my favorite! I want my son to have the same memories of our one on one time before bed. So once in a while after we read our book we talk about how the moon is made of cheese and milk and how the stars are made of sugar. Cada vez que le leo “Las olas de la luna” a mi hijo, me recuerda a cuando yo era niña. Mi parte del día favorito era la hora de ir a la cama porque me gustaba los momentos que compartía con mi mama. Ella me daba un baño y después me contaba historias de como la luna estaba hecha de queso y que las estrellas eran granitos de azúcar en el cielo.
Cuando terminaba su cuento me daba un beso de buenas noches y luego yo le decía “pero mami se te olvido mi leche.” Y luego ella sonreía y después iba a la cocina y regresaba con un vasito de leche tibio. Algunos días le ponía unas gotitas de vainilla y una pizca de azúcar y canela. Esos eran mis favoritos! Yo quiero que mi niño tenga los mismos recuerdos conmigo. De vez en cuando, después de leer nuestros cuentos, platicamos de cómo la luna esta hecha de queso y que las estrellas son granitos de azúcar.
