Thousands of volunteers participated in the 22nd annual Mayor’s L.A. River Day Cleanup (“La Gran Limpieza”) on Saturday, April 30th. The project was organized in conjunction with The Friends of the L.A. River; an organization that focuses on the restoration and protection of the river through planning and education.
Actors Daphne Zuniga, Esai Morales, Sharon Lawrence and other volunteer groups met at various points along 50 mile river between San Fernando Valley to where it flows into the ocean at Long Beach.
The event included a check presentation from Pine-Sol to Girls Today Women Tomorrow Leadership Mentoring Program and a performance by Ozomatli.
With this event, I’ve become more familiar with the River Revitalization Project and have seen some pretty amazing renderings. The completed project looks beautiful. The Los Angeles River Revitalization Master Plan is a 25-50 year blueprint to transform the City’s 32-mile stretch of the L.A. River into a continuous linking of green communities.
